Testimonials
"We live in a fairly remote farmhouse on the North York Moors and have struggled in the past to find suppliers willing to deliver reliably. BATA has never once let us down, even in the worst winter weather, and their automatic top-up service means I genuinely never have to think about it. One less thing to worry about."
"Switched to Keroflame on the recommendation of our BATA driver and noticed a real difference within weeks - the boiler seems to be running cleaner and our consumption has dropped slightly too. Small thing, but it's added up to a worthwhile saving over the winter. Good honest advice from someone who clearly knows their stuff."
"We ran out of oil unexpectedly just before Christmas and I was dreading the wait. BATA prioritised us as an existing customer and got an emergency delivery out within a day, even bringing a Kerobox to tide us over until the full delivery arrived. Brilliant service when we needed it most."
FAQs
What is the minimum order quantity for domestic heating oil?
What is the minimum order quantity for domestic heating oil?
Our standard minimum order for delivered heating oil is 500 litres, though we recommend ordering at least 900–1,000 litres to benefit from better pricing and to ensure a worthwhile delivery. Ordering in larger quantities - 1,000 litres or more - is more economical per litre and reduces the frequency of deliveries needed.
What is the difference between kerosene and gas oil (red diesel)?
What is the difference between kerosene and gas oil (red diesel)?
Kerosene (sometimes called 28-second oil or home heating oil) is a refined, light fuel oil designed specifically for domestic boilers, Agas and range cookers. Gas oil (red diesel) is a heavier, less refined fuel with a red dye that marks it as duty-rebated for agricultural and off-road machinery use. Gas oil must never be used in domestic heating appliances as it will damage the burner, produce excessive soot, and void your appliance warranty. Similarly, using gas oil on the road in a non-agricultural vehicle is illegal and attracts heavy penalties.
How long does heating oil keep in the tank?
How long does heating oil keep in the tank?
Heating oil (kerosene) typically remains usable for 18–24 months if stored correctly in a clean, sealed tank away from direct sunlight. Older oil can degrade, developing a darker colour and potentially forming sludge at the base of the tank, which can clog filters and cause burner problems. If you have oil that has been sitting for more than two years, have it tested before use, and consider a tank clean if sludge is present.
What should I do if I run out of heating oil?
What should I do if I run out of heating oil?
Call us immediately on 01653 605250 and explain you have run out - we prioritise emergency run-out situations and will work to get a delivery to you as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we can supply 20-litre Keroboxes which can be added to your tank to provide temporary heating while you await a full delivery. When you restart your boiler after running out, the system may need bleeding to remove any air that has entered the fuel lines - this is often a job for your heating engineer if you are not familiar with the process.
How do I read my oil tank gauge and when should I order?
How do I read my oil tank gauge and when should I order?
Most oil tanks have a sight gauge on the side or a float gauge on top. As a rough guide, a 1,000-litre tank at 25% (the quarter-mark) holds approximately 250 litres - enough for a few days in cold weather. We recommend ordering when your tank reaches 25–30% to allow time for delivery scheduling, particularly in winter when demand is highest and delivery slots may be busier. Alternatively, BATA's automatic top-up service removes the need to monitor your tank at all.
