Stephen Greenfield is a Chartered Surveyor and Land Agent with 40 years’ experience in Estate Management. Based in Yorkshire since 1989, he has been Chief Executive of the Sledmere Estate for 18 years, overseeing its property, farming, leisure and hospitality businesses. He also runs a small mixed farm near Malton and has held senior roles within the deer farming and rural surveying sectors.

Judy Richmond MRICS is a Chartered Surveyor, part-time sheep farmer and long-standing BATA member, with strong family connections to the organisation. She is currently Senior Estate Manager for the National Trust in the North of England and previously served as Chairman of the Governance Board of Bishop Burton College. Judy brings considerable experience in governance, estate management and organisational leadership.

Richard Butterworth is a BATA Board Director and local parish council Chairman. He began his agricultural career at Bishop Burton College before building a successful East Yorkshire farming business specialising in arable, pigs and renewables. He has represented the pig industry on the Pork & Bacon Promotion Council and SAOS Council, and is a Director of Nupork. He also spent 23 years as a director of Scotlean Pigs, including 10 years as Chairman.

Richard Murray Wells is a former Chartered Surveyor with a varied career across agriculture, property and business. He currently farms over 5,000 acres and develops brownfield and redundant properties. He is a director of Codex Global Ltd and W G Spice Ltd, and previously served as a Director of Ryedale Steel Buildings. Richard served on the CLA Policy Committee from 2017–23 and as CLA National Chairman for Agriculture and Legal & Parliamentary.

Dorothy Fairburn has been appointed Secretary to the Society. With long-standing family connections to BATA, she was brought up on the family farm near Helmsley and is well known to many members and staff from her time as Regional Director of the CLA. She was awarded an MBE in 2011 for services to rural affairs in Yorkshire. Dorothy brings valuable experience of membership organisation administration and will support the Board and enhance membership services.

Neil Millan has joined the BATA Board as a co-opted director. Based in Easingwold, he brings senior leadership experience from major food manufacturing businesses, alongside interim and advisory roles. His expertise includes people management, organisational change, commercial decision-making and corporate governance. Neil looks forward to bringing his experience to the Board and supporting BATA’s continued development.
