FAQs
How do I know which cylinder type and size to buy?
How do I know which cylinder type and size to buy?
The choice between butane and propane depends primarily on the application and ambient temperature. Butane is fine for indoor applications at temperatures above 0°C - portable heaters, camping stoves, small cookers. Propane is better for outdoor use, sub-zero conditions, and any application where you need reliable performance in cold weather - including patio heaters, outdoor cooking and agricultural use. Size depends on how long you need the supply to last and how portable the cylinder needs to be. Our store staff are always happy to advise if you're unsure.
How do I exchange an empty Calor cylinder?
How do I exchange an empty Calor cylinder?
Bring your empty cylinder to any BATA Country Store and exchange it for a full one - it's that straightforward. You pay for the gas content only (the cylinder deposit is already paid when you first purchase). Our stores are open during standard business hours and trained staff will handle the transaction safely. Alternatively, arrange a delivery exchange through our freephone service on 0800 6128 154.
How should I store LPG cylinders safely at home?
How should I store LPG cylinders safely at home?
Store cylinders outdoors in a well-ventilated area, upright and secured so they cannot fall over. Keep them away from heat sources, ignition sources, and direct sunlight. Do not store cylinders indoors, in cellars, or in any enclosed space where gas could accumulate in the event of a small leak. Keep the valve cap or plug in place when the cylinder is not in use. Do not store more cylinders than you need for immediate use. If you smell gas, do not operate any switches or flames - ventilate the area immediately and contact us or the gas emergency line.
Can I use any regulator with a Calor cylinder?
Can I use any regulator with a Calor cylinder?
No - regulators are specific to the gas type (butane or propane) and the cylinder valve type. Calor cylinders use specific valve connections depending on size and gas type. It is important to use the correct regulator for your specific cylinder and appliance. Do not attempt to use a regulator that doesn't fit correctly or requires force - this indicates an incompatible connection. Our store staff can advise on regulator compatibility and will not sell you an incompatible combination.
